Gail Hackston is a writer/director based between London and Glasgow. Starting her career behind the camera in the late 1990s in Scotland, where she worked on a number of shorts on the popular Tartan Shorts and First Reel strands.
Moving to London, she spent 15 years in Marketing and Communications for various media companies before coming back to filmmaking in recent years, and dividing her time between London and Glasgow.
In 2012, Gail produced Crowdsourced feature film 50 Kisses with the London Screenwriters Festival and short film “Spare Change”.
Gail's first short film, Cancer Hair premiered at Cambridge Film Festival in Sept 2014, won "Best Fiction" and "Best of Fest" at the Isle of Man Film Festival in Oct 2014 and won IMDb New Filmmaker of the Year in Nov 2014.
In early 2016 Gail's second short "Rink" was commissioned by Film London and Eastern Edge Film Fund. Filmed in summer of 2016, it's festival run went through 2017 and included a visit to the East End Film Festival, London Short Film Festival and a nomination for the prestigious Iris Prize.
Gail has one more short in the works as well as developing her debut feature film.
